Ganga Water Quality Along the Ghats of Varanasi
Report Month: June 2009
Report dated: 14-07-2009
Reporter: Swatcha Ganga Research Laboratory, Varanasi
Report: In the month of June 2009, 32 nos. of samples were collected from Ganga water along the ghats between Mahadev ghat in the upstream to Varuna in the downstream of Varanasi-Ganga for the analysis of temperature, total dissolved solids, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, Biological Oxygen Demand and Fecal Coliform parameters. Characteristics of Ganga water quality observed at the various sampling locations are presented below:

Remark:
- There is decrease in the value of dissolved oxygen which may be attributed to discharge of sewage and increase in river water temperature.(28-30 celsius).
- BOD and Fecal Coliform values have also been found slightly increased at some sampling locations.
